**NEW! Global Marine Protected Area Workforce Study —2025 ** (learn more)

At eOceans®, science is our foundation. Before building the platform, we were scientists leading collaborative research — like eShark and eManta — to study sharks, rays, and ocean ecosystems. Those projects became the blueprint for what eOceans® is today.

While our Platform-as-a-Service now helps teams around the world accelerate their own work, we continue to pursue our own scientific interests. From sharks and rays to protected areas and pollution, we lead systems-level research that advances understanding and solutions.

We often work with, for, and on behalf of others — expanding knowledge and impact together.

Check out some of our ongoing projects here — where possible, you can follow them in the eOceans app!

Not in the eOceans app: New! How many people work in protected areas today?

Scaling MPAs for 30x30 requires a strong workforce. Help us understand the current numbers so we can plan for what’s needed. MPA managers and staff—take our quick survey!

In the eOceans app: We run many inclusive projects to ensure every observation counts.

Our global, participatory science projects harness observations from around the world—tracking biodiversity, sharks, manta rays, seahorses, turtles, jellyfish, whales, marine heatwaves, and the threats they face. Every observation matters.

The Global Sharks & Rays Tracker project

The world’s largest & longest-running people-powered shark & ray science project — if you see sharks, rays, or their threats in the wild, you can help.
