Can communities and industry monitor marine ecosystems at scale?

Yes. Through the Great Fiji Shark Count, our study mobilized 39 dive operators, generating 146,000+ observations from 30,000+ dives to track 11 shark species across 592 sites. The results provided critical baselines and revealed spatial and temporal trends—demonstrating that community-driven data can inform real-world management and conservation decisions.
