Are there lots of sharks in the Caribbean?
Yes—but mostly only in areas with fewer than 100 people nearby, or where strong protections and tourism value exist. Our study of over 76,000 dive surveys shows that human pressures have caused a large-scale absence of sharks, highlighting the urgent need for conservation and management measures.
