Have depleted marine animal populations recovered?

For most species and ecosystems, they have not. Our study reviewed global data and found evidence of 10–50% of depleted populations showing partial recovery, rarely reaching historic abundance. Recovery requires sustained reductions in human impacts, strong legal protection, and long-term management.
